French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

Combining form and function, French-door refrigerators offer elegant double doors that open to an enormous fridge on the top and a freezer drawer beneath. Special features like door-to-door dispensers, ice machines with higher-end features, and customizable flex drawers make them stand out from the crowd.

We consulted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the right one. They looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency among other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like the name suggests, the GE Profile series is geared towards the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge features into their kitchen. This fridge has them all including the Keurig K cup coffee maker in the door to a smart dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The refrigerator is expensive and I was expecting better.

Other than that however, this refrigerator is a fantastic choice. It has a huge freezer compartment which is uncommon for counter-depth French-door fridges. It also holds plenty of frozen food, which is a big difference from other models.

The fridge has 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment is 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on the same as the size of a French door fridge that costs this much. It also has a decent sized ice maker in the left door, though it isn't the largest I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments for a custom storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is also attractive. The LED lighting is a nice touch and the inside storage bins feature the third shelf, which can fold down to allow you to store tall items. The drawers include temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their plastic textured coatings to be a bit difficult on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you would expect from a refrigerator in this price range. It has Wi-Fi as well as app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices and lets you control your refrigerator from anywhere across the globe. It also has a lot of customization options. It will also send notifications when the door is left unlocked and when the fridge or freezer must be defrosted and when the filter has to be changed.

It is nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill it's an option in a few other GE refrigerators that allows you to preset how many cups of water you'd like to pour out at once. The fridge shows a countdown to show you how much water remains but it's not as useful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth french door fridge with non plumbed ice & water dispenser Door Refrigerator

It is designed to look as a seamless element of your kitchen Bosch's French-door refrigerator looks seamless and is one of a kind. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a veggie compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer periods, and two compressors to preserve food items. The Ice maker is among the best we've ever tested and produces pyramid-shaped Ice with low use of water. This refrigerator is the ideal choice for single household or kitchenettes that want a built in french Door fridge freezer-in look and top of the line food preservation.

This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at a level that was just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit and never fluctuating more than a fraction one degree. This is crucial in preventing freezing burn. The refrigerator section of the fridge also did well. It reached the initial temperature within an hour and remained at that temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch has a reputation for top-of-the-line appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance, with the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app allows you to control and monitor your refrigerator remotely from your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is expensive, however it has great features and capabilities for the price.

It's important to understand the limitations of the fridge. It has a narrow shelf space, which means you'll have to think creatively when storing tall objects. The shelves are also not impervious to spills and could easily be stained or damaged by sharp objects. The trays are easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they should be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth freestanding french door refrigerator freezer 90cm 569l ice & water Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who need plenty of space in an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge has a standard french door fridge kitchenaid-door layout with gallon-sized door bins on each door, two rows of shelves that capture spills, and a set of sleeker drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give taller items more room. You'll also find a full-width drawer for deli and an inside water dispenser.

One of the nice aspects of this refrigerator is that its ice maker is in the freezer, which makes it easy to move frozen ice to the fridge to use as required. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, for instance, sliding drawers that help to organize the place of your items. It has a large bin for storing frozen food and a separate one for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is another cool feature of the refrigerator. You can control the temperature, lighting and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a nice method of monitoring and managing your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat but it doesn't enhance the performance of the fridge. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator than some of the others we tried. This could be due to its bigger capacity.

The doors are another problem with this fridge. The sunken handles let shorter people open them from the bottom. However taller people will have a difficult time closing them without slamming them. It would have been much better to have front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent choice for those who want to combine the look of a French door refrigerator with a more efficient design. Its capacity is higher than average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also a little less than the top counter depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, making it a desirable option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for a French door fridge that doesn't cost a fortune and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a solid option. It's a basic design that isn't as striking visually as some of the competition, but it has enough features that make it a great choice. Its most significant feature, the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large water dispenser and a decent Ice machine that is fast.

Another great feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer allows you to use some of the refrigerator's cooling power to this area so that you can keep food items that require extra attention. You can adjust this feature by using a slider that's located right outside of the drawer. You can also set the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've noticed that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones.

In my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent across different parts of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary significantly from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a good performance but does not quite make it to the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with a smart thermometer for more precise measurements of your fridge's internal temperature.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of stainless steel with a grey body that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It is capable of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared to the glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
