How to Replace an audi tt key Case G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can start spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are several pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start when the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is plugged in but it still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, i believe that i've ruled out everything else. But i am afraid i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, Audi A3 Key Fob please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, for example. In order to do this it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal, and/or programming audi connect key key (https://georgedrive66.bravejournal.net/) a misfire when you're in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. The good news is that they are very cheap and easily accessible, especially if you're looking at the Bosch model, which is what ours are. Alternately, GM's version this component is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous issues in your car. It's an essential component of the transmission in your audi replacement car keys since it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's engine is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost and then sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points.
