WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade item also boosts the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the Item Level Upgrade used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the item upgrading being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other items. Players can purchase them through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using an The button will display a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade item discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a positive and an issue.

They come in four ranks.

For instance, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one usage, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance, it's Best item upgrade to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots.
